In the equestrian world, pedigree is everything. Buyers of young horses judge their value by the lineage and bloodlines they come from. In recent years, there has been a dirge in the production of high-quality racehorses, as a result of which the horse trading business has suffered. Even the 2023 Minnesota Thoroughbred Association Yearling Sale saw a decline in gross profits.

Now, as the Keeneland September Yearling Sale is drawing closer, the equestrian community is once again anticipating a dip in sales. Thankfully, a Kentucky-based thoroughbred breeder may have a potential winner in their hands that can revive the industry.

Airdrie Stud INC. is offering its prime yearling, named “Hip#31,” at the upcoming Keeneland September Yearling Sale. This young filly is believed to have what it takes to rise to the topic of the horse racing world. It comes from a long line of champions, and even his half-brothers have proved their worth. Scott Hazelton of FDTV interviewed Bret Jones, the vice president of Airdrie Stud, and shared a small video clip on his social media. Scott Hazelton wrote an X post to accompany the video that said, “BIG UPDATE: This filly’s 1/2 brother, Conclude, just won the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby! Look for this filly @keenelandsales September”. In the video, Hazelton spoke about the filly with pride and expressed his excitement for her future.

Bret Jones is very excited to introduce Hip #31 to the Yearling Sale. He called the breeding process a “nerve-wracking experience” because each step is crucial in producing a high-quality racehorse. He said, “the breeding has to go well, the pregnancy has to go well, the foaling has to go well”. But that still does not guarantee success, and every detail must be attended to. Bret Jones and his team did not spare any expense to ensure that Hip #31 receives the best possible care and training. The result of their efforts is a well-bred racehorse that has the potential to dominate the equestrian world.

Airdrie Stud’s ‘Hip #31’ Poised to Dominate the Equestrian World

Hip #31 is the daughter of Nyquist with over $500,000 in career earnings and many graded-stakes victories. Her mother is Believe You Can, who was once the Kentucky Oaks winner herself. Bret Jones believes that Hip #31 is very similar to her mother in temperament and racing potentiality. He said, “she looks like a race filly, acts like a race filly so much like the mare”. Just like Believe You Can, Hip #31 also has a mind of her own that can make all the difference on the tracks.
