If anybody in the equestrian world plays things like a game of poker, it’s Todd Pletcher. The legendary Hall of Famer has won multiple Eclipse Awards and is known for eclipsing even the strongest of competitors. The talented racehorses swallowed by the great equestrian trainer this time were Proxy and Warrior Johny. The 5-year-old racehorse consistently bagged the top two positions in three out of four of its previous starts. On the other hand, Pletcher’s champion racehorse, Bright Future, had won four races out of seven starts. Bright Future was manned by Pletcher’s trustee rider, Javier Castellano, who worked his Midas magic and turned the tables on Proxy. Proxy was the more experienced racehorse among the two competitors. The G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup race started with Warrior Johny setting the pace of the race.

Proxy and Bright Future raced hard to move past Warrior Johny, who didn’t yield till the conclusion of the race. After all, Johny is known for achieving high speeds of 106 and 109. However, Bright Future gained an astonishing speed of 111 and made use of an open space to cut through. The iron defense of Warrior Johny failed to contain Bright Future. Proxy tried to capitalize on the open area as well and followed Pletcher’s horse. In fact, Proxy also reached a top speed of 111. However, the race was already over before it could do anything. The amazing victory at the Saratoga Racetrack gave Bright Future a direct entry into the upcoming Breeders’ Cup. The proud trainer praised his matchwinner after the race.

Todd Pletcher speaks up about the thrilling victory

Pletcher was very happy with the outcome of the race. He said that his team had given a lot of thought to the training of Bright Future. The humble trainer thanked “Violas and the Repoles [owners]” for providing the right environment for the proper growth of Bright Future. Pletcher also added, “I thought it was a powerful performance. So from that time on we’ve been pointing for this and the horse has trained exceptionally well.” The legendary trainer didn’t fail to acknowledge the magician on horseback who was the on-site strategist of the race.
