With the great equestrian event approaching the participating horses have started training under the watch of their trainers. So, is the Belmont Stakes winner Arcangelo who after showing an emphatic performance in his last race, took on the track once again. The three-year-old was seen by the equestrian community breezing at the Saratoga race track.

Arcangelo gave a historic victory to his trainer Jena Antonucci after winning the Grade 1 $1.25 million Travers Stakes last month. The colt showed a furious performance and won the race leaving behind his nearest rival Disarm at a distance of length. According to paulickreport, on Tuesday morning the three-year-old breezed on the Saratoga race track ridden by exercise rider Robert Mallari. Arcangelo covered a quarter mile in 23.80 seconds, a half mile in 47.62 seconds, five furlongs in 1:00.80, and six furlongs in 1:15.
Arcangelo was supposed to train on Friday but due to the weather forecast, his training was advanced to Tuesday. Jena Antonucci decided that her horse shall have one more session at the main track before Saturday and one training session at the Oklahoma training track. After that Arcangelo will be shited to Santa Anita later this month or in early October. There the $ 1,754,900-worth three-year-old colt will have three training sessions before the final race. Speaking on his first session Jena said, “Wasn’t looking for anything eye-popping, just a maintenance get-back-into-a-routine kind of thing“. For Antonucci, the race at Santa Anita will be an opportunity for her to claim another medal under her belt after creating history this year in two major races.

Jena Antonucci created history when she won the Belmont Stakes and Travers Stakes this year. She became the first women trainer to win a Triple Crown Race. Also, she is the first woman to win Travers Stakes since 1938. But, her race win is not limited to being a woman but her training skills that shined at the race track on both the races.
Now, she is all focused on the next race the Breeder’s Cup for which she has started her journey by maiden training session of Arcangelo after Travers. Antonucci observed that the horse had finally settled back after coming out sharp from the last race. She wanted to give him rest to recover completely and that’s what it showed in the training. She said that the exercise rider was happy with the colt, he picked up yearly and was willing to do more.

Arcangelo has shown his talent after winning three graded stakes races this year. He is one of the favorites to win at the Breeders this year and with the form at the training, he is cruising in the right direction.
