Everyone enjoys watching a nail-biting equestrian race. In fact, a race’s thrill and amazement increase tenfold when a true champion participates. However, rules and regulations always apply to everyone, irrespective of their stature. A Hall of Famer equestrian jockey was recently reminded of this impartiality.
Kent Desormeaux recently registered three back-to-back wins on 11th August. He achieved his most remarkable victory atop a rookie racehorse. However, the same race has now put him in trouble as it has yielded a suspension for Desormeaux.

Kent Desormeaux is one of the most successful and well-known equestrian jockeys. The word of his skill spills over the confines of the country’s borders. Desormeaux started his career in 1986 and has one of the most decorated equestrian profiles. He was a prodigy from the get-go and has made several records. He is the youngest jockey to win 3000 races and to reach the $100 million mark in purses. On 11th August, the legendary equestrian operated on his default setting and won three incredible races.
Desormeaux had paired up with two-year-old rookie racehorse Lord Prancalot. While Lord Prancealot had the experience of just one race, this was not a problem for Desormeaux. The problem, however, arose later as Desormeaux was charged with a crop violation. The racing authorities had determined that Desormeaux had whipped his ride a total of eight times. Desormeaux had crossed the regulated number of six beatings that led to the violation. The equestrian body suspended the legendary jockey for breaching the rules. However, Desormeaux received no severe penalties. The board noted another clause of the rules that lightened the penalty of Desormeaux.

A day’s suspension and fine
The board noted that Desormeaux had crossed the six lashes mark and breached the rules. However, he had stayed under the severely punishable limit of ten. This did not warrant a heavy penalty for Desormeaux. Eventually, the equestrian board imposed a one-day suspension and a fine on the legendary jockey. Apparently, Desormeaux was not supposed to race on 11th August either. However, he appealed to the higher authorities and presented his case before them. The authorities considered his case and permitted him to race and gave the crowds a treat to behold.

The board fined Desormeaux $692.50 for the violation. The board would have imposed a stricter penalty had he exceeded the final limit of ten strikes. A breach of more than ten strikes takes away the purse money of the win from the horse. The rookie equestrian racehorse, however, was saved from the trouble. The duo of Lord Prancelot dominated the Graduation Stakes event and impressed all the spectators in the stands.
