Gillian Higgins is known for her fantastic contribution towards the well-being of horses. People who know of her are aware of her signature artwork. Apparently, Higgins is so well-versed in equestrian anatomy that she paints their muscles and bones on them! The anatomist, lecturer, therapist, and masseuse knows horses inside out. In fact, she is also the founder and head of the company Horses Inside Out!
The equestrian health and anatomy expert made another visit to the US after ten long years. She was invited to give her valuable lessons at a Morven Park Equestrian Center clinic. During her visit, she also gave an interview where she opened up about her tricks of the trade.
How Things Started For Gillian Higgins?

Higgins had a diverse career before starting Horses Inside Out. She was employed in various bodywork settings for both horses and people. She worked in several fields including remedial and sports therapy for people, sports massage therapy for horses, and chiropractic manipulation for horses. She has studied sports, remedial massage therapy, and sports massage for horses. She is the proud author of 11 books on equestrian anatomy and biomechanical functionality. Her books cover anything and everything related to the health and well-being of horses.
After discovering how gifted she was in the field, Higgins began conducting modest little clinics for her friends and acquaintances. She noticed that many of her customers and pupils received incredible gains after learning about equestrian anatomy from her. Higgins has also lectured at many veterinary institutions since establishing her company in 2006. She recently gave a candid interview to Veronica Green-Gott of Eventing Nation, where she spoke about how she does things.

Equestrian Anatomy: The Key to Raising Horses Perfectly
Green-Gott asked Higgins about a particular quote she had penned in one of her books. The reporter questioned what Higgins meant by “Study the bones of a horse well, and they will tell you a story because anatomy reflects function.” Higgins said that studying the shape and structure of bones and muscles can reveal several valuable answers. According to her, the framework of muscles and bones tells their purpose and how they must be operated. Bones of horses tell a whole story. Higgins emphasized that even the slightest changes in the movements and behavior of horses could be traced back to asymmetry in their bones.

When asked how her company, Horses Inside Out, can benefit a typical horse owner, Higgins said this depends on the individual. She said that every owner’s responsibility is to look after their horse, and stressed that every individual must see themselves as a personal equestrian trainer. Higgins mentioned that keen observation pays the best dividends when combined with anatomical knowledge. According to her, while cultivating the right attitude is up to the owners, her job is to provide them with the proper knowledge to give the best care to their horses.
