The Dewhurst Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old colts and fillies. This race is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 7 furlongs, this race takes place annually in October. With this, it is also considered to be the most prestigious race for juvenile horses in Britain.
Last weekend this stake saw an incredible performance by a 2-year-old equine who is the son of the 2018 US Triple Crown Winner. A terrific showdown took place between the Godolphin Blue and the Coolmore Studs on the 15th of October 2023 at the Dewhurst Stakes. The performance that amassed a lot of attention was of the two-year-old City of Troy. He ran with a burst of energy and smoothly attained the win in this race. He is the son of US Triple Crown winner, Justify, and his traits showed in Troy during the race.
According to the Guardian, Ryan Moore saddled upon Troy, was leading from the very first stride. Although he was raining on a ground that went sticky as an impact of the rain, Troy galloped fiercely taking the jockey towards win. Aidan O’Brien was absolutely stunned by this performance of the colt. This victory was a record-equaling eighth in the race for his Ballydoyle stable. Looking at the situation on the ground, the circumstances seemed tricky for the jockey. O’Brien expressed, “There was nearly an inch of rain last night and Ryan came in after the first and said it was deep, tacky ground, so it was completely what he wouldn’t want.”

He mentioned that he never had a horse that never got tired. Aidan expressed,” I’ve never had a horse that never gets tired.” He has never witnessed a horse where he didn’t know about the limit. But with City of Troy, this has changed. He usually tries to push him to his limit but can never find it. He further added, “There is no doubt he is the best two-year-old I’ve trained. It is a Justify trait that they just keep going.” With a horse like this, only good times are waiting for the O’Brien’s stable.
