Horses form the vital base for the equestrian community; uniting enthusiasts with common interests. While the sport may gather the fans for entertainment and thrill, the community also unites people in case of mistreatment. The horses cheered for in a sport, are often left abandoned after their term of 3-4 years. Stepping in against these cases are the equine rescue centers to ensure the well-being and safety of the abandoned and abused.

Once rehabilitated, the horses can be trained and participate in various equestrian disciplines. However, many lack the knowledge of it. Thus, equestrian centers like Central Pennsylvania Horse Rescue, stand up for vulnerable creatures. Blissfully, the centers do not operate alone. Enthusiasts often unite to show their support and do their part like the community in Lewisberry, York County.

Lewisberry’s Lowe?s hardware stores organize a warming event every year for its employees as a part of the company?s Hometowns program. The program allows the employees to volunteer for causes and this year, the crowd reached Pennsylvania Horse Rescue. According to Abc27 News, the rescue center has been having problems with the storage facility and the community’s help was a need of the hour.

?When you have a big barn, you also have the critters that get into the barn…So we thought if we could have a secured, dedicated feed room, we could put the feed in there and the medications and be able to hopefully keep it rodent-free,??Connie, co-founder of the rescue center told Abc27. Following along, the volunteers stepped in to work on the new project.

The employees joined hands to paint buildings and gates, weed whack, and assemble wheelbarrows. Additionally, they also worked on the electric needs and power washing as needed. The ultimate goal of the organization was to install a new facility to store horse feed and medical supplies. ?It?s amazing,? Connie said. “We still can?t believe it, just can?t believe that we were blessed to have this happen to us. Nothing like this has ever happened before for the rescue.”
