The repercussions of Harley’s fall during race three at Doomben were evident in fractures at the base of his skull where it connects to the neck. However, amidst the adversity, he finds solace in the absence of any spinal cord damage. According to a report by Racenet, despite being denied the opportunity to ride Alpine Edge to victory in the prestigious $1 million Magic Millions QTIS race, he is grateful for regaining the ability to walk. For him, that outweighs any winnings he has experienced in the saddle. “The timing has been frustrating but I will take walking again over winning at Magic Millions and some other things,” he said.

Embarking on a rigorous physiotherapy routine, Harley takes pride in the progress he has made. “I had done my neck once before, the C1 and C2, this time it was C0, C1, and C2, when you get close to bones in your neck, it does get scary and you start to think about it all,” Harley said. Encouraged by the gradual restoration of strength in his body, he acknowledges that the path to recovery is not without its difficulties. While the prospect of surgery may have initially sparked apprehension, Harley is determined to conquer every obstacle that lies ahead.
