The equestrian industry puts forth a sum of pretty scenes. Be it the elegance at the show jumping, or the fierceness at horse racing, the sport is sure to pull a crowd with its performance. However, as much beauty as the community carries, there is always a varied part acting contrary. The spotlight of the sport, the equines are often bound to an unlikely fate once the career nears an end.

According to Impactful Ninja, over 50,000 racehorses are shipped overseas for unkind situations. Adding to the stats, most of these numbers are speculated to belong to ex-racehorses. However, fighting against the absurdities, charities and welfare organizations have always risen to the occasion. In recent news, an equine near to meeting its unkind ex-racehorse fate fell into the hands of one such organization. While the end was a near-good one, the story entailing is no short of horrifying; receiving a heartfelt reaction from the spectators online.

Ex-racehorse finds safe haven at equestrian organization

On the 10th of October, an Australian welfare organization stumbled upon a racehorse in conditions unthought of. The organization took to its Facebook page to explain the situation that Sox, the equine, arrived in.

Sox, prior to being founded by ‘Save a Horse’ Australia, was known to be a racehorse further transferred to show jumping. However, after sustaining an injury, Sox met the end of his career and care. The equine ended in a place with unpleasant conditions. Without enough looking after, the 9-year-old was obliged to look bare to the bone; seemingly malnourished.

Though the organization refused to mention any names, it revealed that Sox was too dainty to undergo sedation. The organization further added that its concern on priority would be to get Sox well again.

Learning the facts, the internet was left with a heavy heart. To curb the misery and to appreciate the organization, the people gathered to leave in supportive comments.

Online community gathers in support of rescued horse

The situation of Sox was unkind enough to bring remorse to the spectators. Sorry for the situation, the users shared their concerns. One of the comments read, “I’m in tears looking at this beautiful boy . We do not deserve to be so trusted from a creature who has had nothing but pain.” While another followed with, “Poor baby. Saddens me to think we have humans that allow this to happen. Thank you for helping him…”

Other spectators in the community shared their appreciation and gratitude towards SAHA for the efforts they put in. “I am so impressed, with your compassion, empathy, and passion for horses. You make my heart warm…” a comment read. Another user chimed in next to express similar emotions. “Omg, this absolutely breaks my heart. How can someone do this to a beautiful, innocent animal. Thank you SAHA for doing what you do. I sincerely appreciate all your care, support & kindness you continually do. Thankfully, Sox is in great hands” 

While people expressed their remorse, the comment section also had spectators hopeful and optimistic about the situation. “I am so sorry Sox that someone has treated you like this! I hope you are happy and safe now in your new home. You are beautiful,” the first one read. “This is the beginning of your new life Sox. You will never have to experience the pain and suffering you’ve endured ever again. You deserve the best from now on,” added another.

Save A Horse Australia was founded back in 2001. Since then, the organization has rescued and led numerous horses for adoption and a safe place; building hope.
