The BE100open equestrian competition saw one of the most memorable stories to come out. A horse had its eye removed and managed to win the competition. Hence, Carrie Eve won the competition with her 12-YO Dutch gelding Ferdy III. Remarkably, the horse had his eyelid removed during the lockdown as she won the event at Poplar Park on 5 March.

They had a dressage score of 26.5 and gave out a terrific performance with her horse. Thus, it is truly a wonderful moment for the rider and horse.

A sensational equestrian moment from Carrie Eve and her horse

According to Horse & Hound, the horse was blind in his right eye due to a rare condition. It lasted for a couple of years during the lockdown but he won the competition, to the delight of the fans. The rider spoke about the condition that her horse suffered and became disappointed with his condition. She talked in detail about what happened, and it was scary to see her horse go blind. With the drastic decline in his eyesight.

“In the space of about five weeks, his eye went from being fine to bright blue, it was quite scary. But he adjusted so quickly, I wondered how much sight he’d had in that eye anyway. There wasn’t any change in him from the day it started,” said Carrie.

The first time it happened to ‘Ron’, she spoke about him having an ulcer in his eye at the end of 2017. During the lockdown in 2020, Ron had his eye removed, and Carrie thought it was right to remove his eye.

After recovery, Carrie took part in an event, but fell down from her horse and missed the rest of the 2020 season. However, the BE100open saw her winning the event with a sensational comeback with her horse.

“I was so shocked, I didn’t expect it at all but it was really nice to start the season like that, and he went the best he has in a long time. He’s the most laid-back, lazy horse you could ever come across; everyone loves him because he’s just so easy — but once you’re in the start box, he knows what he’s doing,” said Carrie.
