Ray Dawson is a popular name in the equestrian world. The 30-year-old Irish jockey has celebrated various victorious streaks. However, he has grappled with significant setbacks attributed to a history of addiction issues, and a personal struggle he has candidly shared in the past.

He even managed to remain abstinent from alcohol for nearly five years, but he relapsed in August for the second time. Compounding these personal hurdles, the 30-year-old with 198 career wins is now facing a six-month ban from the sport.

According to Racing TV, Ray Dawson was banned from the sport for six months after a sample taken at the course tested positive for drug use on August 19 at Bath. He admitted to substance use. On Monday, he appeared before the British Horseracing Authority disciplinary panel. Dawson, who has been vocal about his problem, was a part of Sporting Chance, the charity set up by former footballer Tony Adams, and he even credited the foundation with helping him stay sober for nearly five years.

However, personal challenges surfaced in 2022, which caused him to miss Alcoholics Anonymous meetings or engage with the recovery programs. This led to the night of August 18, when he entered a pub and consumed alcohol, leading to the unfortunate turn of events. Since August 24 of this year, Dawson has not participated in any riding activities. This takes us into reflection on the victory streak prior to the turn of events.
