At the 2023 Pan American Games, the participants of the US Dressage Team showcased their exceptional connection and subtle communication with their equine partners. As a result, they not only brought honor to the American equestrian world but also clinched the gold medal. In a team where unity is paramount, the dressage athletes demonstrated phenomenal teamwork, with special recognition for the 22-year-old Ventura native.

In Quillota, Chile, with a winning score of 224.338, the US team left behind Brazil in the silver position with 221.151. But for the US teammates, their connection was beyond competition. Spending a great deal of time together, the team spent quality time together oftentimes. So, when the athletes met up again, they found a way to include the absentee, Christian Simonson.

Equestrian Christian Simonson’s unusual reunion

In Omaha, Nebraska, the Midwest region of the US, the 22-year-old snatched the spotlight at the USDF Annual Convention. After the gala, Simonson resorted to his Instagram to draw himself on a selfie of his teammates, Codi Harrison and Anna Marek. The story was captioned, “During the Pan American Games we would often take team selfies, so when one of us wasn’t around we would draw the other team members in.”

The equestrian concluded his sentence with a face with tears of joy emoji. He further added, “hence this drawing”, tagging Marek and Harrison. As per his caption, the picture looked like some off-stage moment from the 2023 Pan American Games. So, in a way, he reunited with his support systems by means of an older photograph. While his Pan-Am performance, on board Son of a Lady, the 22-year-old secured a personal best score of 74.971% in Intermediate I.

The Christina Morgan and Cliff Simonson-owned gelding perceive his rider’s steps like a human would. After their winning stride in Chile, Simonson said, “He and I just have really good communication together.” He had even accoladed the team synergy. Recently, he added another gold in his wall of fame.

For 50 years, the USDF Annual Convention has been congratulating the USDF’s humble step towards promoting dressage. So, this year. Christian Simonson was among the top names. His 2024 Paris Olympics plans are afoot, so as a starter, he received some awards. Captioned his Instagram post as  “I was fortunate to earn my USDF gold medal and awards from Zeaball, Son of a lady, and Duval.”

“It has been an amazing journey this past year and I can not thank my team and these incredible horses enough” was his concluding statement. Present with teammates and family, Simonson smiled for the camera trying to fit all the achievements in one frame.

Now it’s just a matter of days until he sets out for the podium again with his beloved horses.
