Who doesn’t like a win after a long, arduous, training routine? But winning five races in a single day on the same course is nothing less than incredible. A number of jockeys have achieved that feat. Irad Ortiz Jr. joined the list of those jockeys on Saturday. The Puerto Rican won five races in a single day at the Saratoga Race Course.
One of the leading jockeys in the country, Ortiz who has a net worth of more than 280 million, was not new to the Saratoga race course. He has won many races on the course prior to it. Also, having come from a family where jockey has been their profession for generations pulling such a feat is not ordinary.

It was a regular day for Ortiz while he was preparing for the races. His whole focus was to perform better and win. His first race win was with 2-year-old Noted trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher. He returned to the course again with Paddington in a nine-furlong starter allowance event for 3-year-olds winning it by eight and a half lengths. He paired with Undervalued Asset trained by four-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown. It was a seven-furlong allowance event for fillies and mares which he again won.

He won the race with five and a half furlong abroad Roses for Debra trained by Christophe Clement. His last win for the day was a six-furlong allowance test for 3-year-olds riding Accretive trained by Chad Brown. The victory has moved him to second place in a tie with his brother Jose in jockey’s standings.

I ride for a lot of trainers that do a great job, too. I’m just happy and enjoying the moment.” According to Ortiz, if you have a good horse you can win races and that’s what happened today.
