In the horse racing industry, the act of bonding over a good cause is a common practice. Some days back, several organizations jumped into shelter equines during floods. Even at that time, the world witnessed the power of unity in the equestrian community. While several horse owners are fulfilling their own individual goals, there’s one who has a better outlook.
The billionaire and horse owner Mike Repole is a man of his word. When very few people joined in to support his endeavor, he took the path of self-funding. On a mission to bring all the horse racing organizations under one roof, Repole introduced his new organization.

The new National Thoroughbred Alliance will speak on behalf of horseplayers, racetracks, breeders, trainers, and owners. The Repole Stable owner had also stated that his new arrangement is all-inclusive. Not entertaining any voting or payment plans, the ‘Alliance’ will only focus on curbing sports-related issues. Previously known as the National Thoroughbred Association, the new project has Pat Cunnings as its executive director.
Cummings had previously worked for the Thoroughbred Idea Foundation in the same role. Furthermore, Repole showed gratitude for Fred Pope, who had originally founded the National Thoroughbred Foundation in 1996. He said that Fred had an “amazing vision–what we need today.” He added his personal touch to this saying, “All I want to do is help execute a vision and strategy that everybody wants.”
Repole’s disappointment was clear when he revealed that the equine industry has traveled from “growth, to stagnant, to massive decline.” Additionally, he also expressed woe while stating that the racing sphere has no strategy or vision currently. So, as the first step to something good, he made the announcement on Thursday.

While talking about some game plans, he said, “Pat and I will engage everyone and start talking about what they are seeing and how we can help the entire game.” Moving ahead, he wants to get inspiration from the National Thoroughbred Racing Association to include more groups in his organization.

Repole stated that he is ready for further discussions but did not pinpoint anything in the industry in particular. The NTA is facing similar setbacks as Pope’s organization, missing out on an authoritative approach. Although he and his partner had planned to brainstorm with industry experts. As a result, they might be able to solve issues by soliciting feedback from all parties regarding similar obstacles. Even though the TRA fails to enact any modifications, Cummings perceives a scope. He confidently said, “I faced a lot of the same issues in starting the (TIF) and a lot of the same questions: How will it work? How will you get things accomplished with absolutely no power? The answer is like the ages-old question of how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”
