The equestrian world witnessed a tremendous loss quite recently. A regal stallion that used to be the queen’s most trusted carriage horse met with a rather unfortunate fate. There’s a certain synergy between horse and man that stands the test of time. A woman named Morgan was passionate about riding. She used to train a horse which was blind but she was suddenly diagnosed with Lupus, a persistent disease, which made her quit riding. But her dedication to her companion was stronger and despite all this, she didn’t give up on riding and came back to life after vanquishing this disease. This shows the bond between horses and humans is stronger than ever.
If such a trusted companion who is so close to you passes away, it is a deeply poignant moment. The loss would leave a void that’s hard to fill in a lifetime, but the memories and the love will always remain. One such horse, who was the cynosure of all eyes in England called ?Claudia? served sixteen years but unfortunately passed away today.

Honouring Claudia’s equestrian legacy in a fitting manner
Today, The Horse Trust shared a post on Facebook about the somber news of Claudia’s passing, a retired Royal Mews carriage horse. Claudia, who retired in 2019, dedicated 16 years of her life in service to the Royal Mews. Her sterling and expansive career included serving as both a ridden Outrider and a carriage horse for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with notable highlights such as The State Opening of Parliament and pulling the carriage for The Prince and Princess of Wales’s Wedding.
Upon her retirement, Claudia enjoyed a reunion with her very own mother, Cloud, who joined the herd in this centre the previous year. The striking resemblance between Claudia and Cloud, not only in their looks but also in behaviour led them to often work together during ceremonial events. With Cloud’s 10 years of service and Claudia’s 16, the mother-daughter duo were inseparable and spent a considerable amount of time working side by side. They continued to live together in the centre at The Horse Trust, remaining close-knit since their reunion, even after Cloud’s passing in 2021.

A bittersweet journey in retirement
During her retirement, Claudia faced challenges with melanoma, slow-growing tumours that many horses can manage with careful monitoring. Over time, Claudia’s tumours progressed, despite surgical interventions, as melanomas often tend to do. Sadly, one of the larger masses began to impact her overall quality of life. Her diseases started to engulf her into a pit of despair, despite her strong and robust will.

The Facebook post further stated,? We will miss Claudia?s zest for life, but are glad to have given her a great retirement and allowed her a peaceful passing.? They further added that she is no longer with them, but they take relief in the fact that they provided her with a peaceful retirement and a good farewell. Rest in peace, dear Claudia. There is light at the end of the tunnel as her hoofprints will forever be etched in the dusty crevices of our all of our minds.
