The equestrian sport is a thrilling and elegant presence amongst enthusiasts. However, with the involvement of the magnificent creatures, the sport does not arrive without a risk. A misstep or a slight imbalance has the potential to imprint grave injury; be it the equine alone or the rider included. While the fields step up for immediate action, the injuries and mishaps are known to transcend the boundaries of a race track.
The persisting cases of horse injuries cover a broader spectrum of the matter. While accidents cannot be unavoidable at all times, rescue centers like that of SPANA or Brooke ensure to assist the suffering creatures in the accessible lines. Following along the deeds, another one of the local organizations has stepped in to lend in its efforts after an equine found itself succumbing to a similar fate.

On the 14th of October, the town of Santa Venera stood witness to an unlikely event. A horse from a nearby paddock managed to break herself out, leading to the accident. The mare after rushing out from its sanctuary, tripped to fall between a wall and a prickly pear tree. The incident called upon not one but three organizations.
The Civil Protection Department, rescuers from the Hal Far and USAR fire stations were rushed to the location on Saturday. The three teams put in their best efforts to pull the equine out from the rubble and the tree enclosing it. After hours of the rescue operation, the department reigned successfully in lifting the horse from its unkind situation; using a crane.

Malta has previously witnessed its locals walking up in support of the creatures led by the popular rescue center.

The NGO transformed an abandoned pig farm into an accommodation space for the ex-racehorses left out as they were of no use. The team included volunteers working across four months to transform the place into an area suitable for the horses. “Many of horses that come to us are horses who have retired from racing. Despite their career having ended, these horses are otherwise healthy and are still young and our goal is to bring to here either to try to find them a home or for children to be able to ride them et cetera. ” RMJ’s president told TVM news.
