The Del Mar Racing hosted its closing stakes on Sunday with Grade 3 Del Mar Juvenile Turf. Ending its 2-month long stand, the stakes saw yet another day of wonderment and anticipation. Though to the equestrian community’s dismay, the stakes saw its season closure on Sunday, the riders and equines made sure not to deliver a dull one.
The meet carrying a purse at $100,000, was a witness to a fierce contest between two-year-old American Thoroughbred on a mile-long turf; the 7th race of the day. With 8 of the equines having a start with nothing to expect, the shifting lengths between the horses going forth was certainly a thrill. However, three-quarters mile into the race, the audience had its winning equine dominating the track.

The Del Mar Juvenile Turf on Sunday saw a solid lead by no.3 Boltage. However, it was Michael McCarthy-trained colt taking home the title for the day. Des Doigts took a solid lead moving past Boltage and maintaining the dominance through to the 1st turn as Endlessly lingered a good 5 lengths off the lead. Moving past through one-fourth of the mile, Bear River paced to take the lead followed by Des Doigts and Boltage while the winning equine still laid 7 lengths off the lead.
It was only half a mile into the race that Endlessly started making a move. Moving on the outside, Endlessly was quick to maneuver around five of the leading equines to take a dominating stand. Rider Juan Hernandez strategically used a turning to ride on and maintain a strong steer leading to a clear victory.
The 2-year-old colt won the race by a firm 2 1/4-length advantage and clocked the finish at 1:35.28. The colt added a whopping $60,000 to its total earnings with the win. Endlessly’s victory was the third win out of the seven races for trainer Michael McCarthy on Sunday. “The horse was attentive to him (Juan) and he put himself in a great spot. He looked like he was always traveling comfortably…..and he was able to finish off nicely.” McCarthy said according to Paulick Report. The race however wasn’t only a big one for McCarthy but Juan Hernandez too.
