In a heart-pounding showdown that captivated equestrian enthusiasts worldwide, Harrie Smolders emerged victorious at the Riyadh season finale. He seized the coveted Global Champions Tour Championship title. Despite finishing 27th in the final individual round, Smolders managed to secure the coveted championship. Alongside Smolders’ triumph, Germany’s Christian Kukuk emerged victorious in the final round, showcasing his equestrian prowess.

In a dramatic turn of events during the season finale, Dutch rider Harrie Smolders faced a tense round with two knocked-down fences while riding Uricas V/D Kattevennen. As he anxiously awaited the results of his rivals, Maikel van der Vleuten of the Netherlands and Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann, the individual championship title hung in the balance. Unfortunately, Henrik von Eckermann, mounted on King Edward, had an early mishap in the first round, eliminating his chances, while Maikel van der Vleuten, riding Beauville Z N.O.P, delivered a stellar performance, clearing the first round and pushing the competition to a thrilling jump-off. In the jump-off, van der Vleuten’s decision to take a risk by knocking down a fence and finishing slower surprisingly favored Harrie Smolders, who secured the championship title with 252 points. Van der Vleuten closely followed with 246 points, and von Eckermann earned 245.5 points in this intense battle.
While Harrie Smolders claimed the individual title, the final round in Riyadh also showcased another exceptional performance. Germany’s Christian Kukuk, riding Checker 47 completed in the quickest time, an impressive 37.56 seconds. Kukuk was one of three riders who successfully navigated the jump-off, securing his victory and leaving the audience in awe of his equestrian prowess. Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that Stockholm Hearts also delivered a stellar performance throughout the event.

Equestrian thrills at the Global Champions League Final
Stockholm Hearts impressed in the team event by finishing first with a remarkable time of 1 minute and 25.87 seconds in the Global Champions League final held in Riyadh. Following them, Rome Gladiators and Prague Lions secured the silver and bronze medals with times of 1 minute and 31.60 seconds and 1 minute and 31.98 seconds, respectively. Riesenbeck International claimed the 4th position by completing in 1 min and 32 sec, while Paris Panthers came 6 in 1 min and 40.45 seconds.

Riesenbeck International sets the pace with 332 points, closely followed by Paris Panthers at 318 points. Madrid in Motion claims the third spot with 274 points, while Stockholm Hearts secures the fourth position with 250 points, promising intense competition ahead. With these top four teams now reserving their positions in the Super Cup semi-finals during the Prague playoffs, a thrilling promise of equestrian action awaits in the days ahead.
