.Cycling for a long distance is not an easy feat, even more so when you are a 13-year-old. However, driven by a noble deed for an equestrian charity, Isabel Wright set forth to compete in a challenge crushing staggering numbers.

On the 30th of August, Isabel completed the challenge to raise money for a horse sanctuary along with her father and his best friend. Isabel’s fondness towards the Redwings Horse Sanctuary saw its beginning ever since she was an 8-year-old. This fondness and her will to give led Wright on the twelve-day-long journey showcasing her determination. While we stay amazed, this wasn’t Isabel’s first charitable action towards the horse sanctuary.

Starting on the 19th of August from the Redwings Mountains in Forfar, a county town of Angus, Scotland, Isabel cycled a good 700 miles to reach the Redwings Oxhill Visitor Centre. Taking on the tandem bike, Isabel’s father and his friend joined her to help her complete the grueling journey. The trio, following the route, cycled across two countries, England and Scotland, visiting every one of the Redwings’ Visiting Centre. Talking about the challenge, Rich, Isabel’s father said it was mostly Isabel who did it all. Rich and Dave, apparently only did half a distance each.

Isabel visited the Redwings Center in Oxhill for the first time as an 8-year-old along with her grandma. The visitation further inspired Isabel to do her part and raise money for this equestrian community. Five years in, Isabel along with her father, has managed to raise a total of £6000; £2,495 during the recent event alone. In 2021, the trio covered a walking distance of 100 miles. And in 2021, the father-daughter duo covered 2 of the 3 highest peaks in Whales.

The two, however, don’t seem to stop anytime soon. Speaking post-challenge, Rich said that they were already thinking about what they could do next year for the horse sanctuary.

The registered charity founded in 1984, works to protect horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules. Now, being the largest horse charity in the UK, Redwings aims to provide a safe home to the animals that are left astray. According to the reports, the charity took in almost 100 horses in 2022. In the same year, they protected yet another 622 horses through 175 intervention cases.

The horse sanctuary is constantly working for the welfare of the animals and Isabel’s challenge to raise money couldn’t have been of better help. “It’s such an incredible achievement, and we are so touched that she was inspired to do something like this for us… Thank you so much, Izzy, and to all the people who made generous donations to her fundraiser. Supporters like you allow us to keep helping the horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules who need us,” Debbie, the head of fundraising at Redwings said talking about the event.
