The Pony Express ran its course for the first time in April 1860. Its 2,000+ mile (3,200 km) journey overland took around 10 days for 190 stops, including Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. Throughout the service’s 18-month period, which was primarily used by newspapers and companies, only a single bag of mail was lost.

It intends to recognize the significance of the original Pony Express route, besides paying tribute to the memories of the 1860–1861 Pony Express riders. Segura, said “It’s a big-rooted event in time”.

The Pony Express route became a Pony Express National Historic Trail on August 3, 1992. Following the discovery of gold in Sutter’s Mill, California, in 1848, prospectors began migrating west. The Pony Express had made stops in major cities like Salt Lake City and ran from Missouri to California in February 1860. Back in the day, consistent communication became increasingly crucial with the outbreak of the Civil War.

To regain connectivity, William Hepburn Russell purchased 500 horses and set them up at 10-mile-distance stations. From station to station, riders would go on their horses while carrying the mail on their backs. Riders would exchange horses at each station to avoid the horses getting overworked. Despite being a hit, the service was replaced by the transcontinental telegraph, which was launched in October 1861. The Express was a substantial improvement in letter delivery, which bound the war-torn American states.
