Enid illustrated her story with her horse in the interview with Horse and Hound. Phil Farmer, who owns the pub and equestrian center where Enid works, helped her find her dream horse, Colin. She saw Colin gracefully jumping over the fence at the age of 4, and then made her decision to buy the horse. She gave the credit to her horse by saying, “It may have been BE80 but to me, it’s like winning Badminton, for that horse, he deserves all the credit in the world.”
Colin had a habit of spinning in the yard, dropping his shoulder, and bucking, which could not keep the jockey stable on the saddle. She said, “It became a running joke at the yard,” after repeatedly falling off. She spent a lot of time trying to ride the horse, but Enid kept falling off. She even tried to stop riding horses, but her equine zeal drew her back on the saddle and she pushed her limits. She received great help from her equestrian trainer Emma Carmichael on this journey. She said, “Many a time I thought Colin was too good for me, but I knew if anyone was going to help me understand him it was Emma, as she has ridden many horses like him herself.”
Emma set the course for Enid to go from falling off the horse to a great victory. She pushed Enid’s limits and filled her with self-belief and confidence. Enid and Colin participated in the Warwick Hall event BE80(T), where they lost because of their multiple mistakes. But with a boosted spirit she went to Alnwick Ford where Enid was nearly falling off Colin again, but they controlled their balance and won. These national championships give the riders an extraordinary experience to perform on greater platforms.
