“The Big Bang Theory” star opened up to about a “horrible” horse riding accident that occurred approximately 15 years ago. The actress, then 22 and an avid equestrian, was practicing with one of her show-jumping horses when the animal suddenly got spooked, leading to her fall. According to ETCanada initially, she seemed fine, but then the horse unexpectedly jumped up and landed on her left leg.
Cuoco described the accident as serious, recalling the surgery she had to undergo and even signing papers acknowledging the possibility of leg amputation. Thankfully, she emerged from the procedure intact, but the compound fracture she sustained required extensive medical attention. When speaking about the incident, Cuoco described her initial shock at the seriousness of her wounds, saying, “It took me like five or 10 seconds to actually realize it wasn’t just 400 leaves cracking, it was my bones.”
Following a leg operation that required pins and rods, Kaley Cuoco faced uncertainty about informing “The Big Bang Theory” creator Chuck Lorre about her recovery. Doctors estimated she would be unable to walk for three months, but Cuoco surprised everyone by wearing a boot after just a week and returning to work within two weeks. Describing her recovery as miraculous, she now carries a few pins and scars but emerged from the ordeal in good health. To conceal the injury from the audience, her character Penny was temporarily promoted to bartender on the show.
More so, during the fourth season of the show, Cuoco’s lower body was rarely shown due to a horrific accident that nearly resulted in the loss of her foot.
