This weekend, the lake was as crowded as ever, as the local community wanted to enjoy the lovely day with their families. The sound of laughter permeated the air, but the fun and excitement did not last long. Soon, the sound of sirens and police cars drowned out the joyful atmosphere of the place. The authorities had received news of a 24-year-old Ethan Aguilar who had drowned on Lake Havasu’s Standard Wash Cove. The Mohave County Sheriff was present on the scene and ordered that the lake be closed for swimming and other activities till the rescue operation was completed. The Sheriff’s office released an official report to Fox 10 that explained that the young victim had dived into the water from a cliff that was almost 30 feet high and “then went below the water’s surface”.

Sgt. Kyler Cox of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety conducted the rescue operation and the subsequent investigation. The officers from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department joined him and offered their assistance. Cox said that the eyewitnesses reported the man diving, but “When he struck the water, he began to struggle and went under”.

When they brought the victim to the shore, the paramedics performed CPR to stabilize his condition. The authorities sent him to Cattail Cove for more treatment. The doctors pronounced him dead there. He had made the blunder of not wearing any floatation device and paid the price with his life. Since this announcement, a shadow of grief has descended over the whole community and opened old wounds.
