Paul Kimmage, a popular sports journalist, was one of the first to bring realistic coverage of doping in cycling. In a recent podcast, Paul Kimmage shared shocking details about the Lance Armstrong doping scandal which the world can never forget. Recently, Kimmage also revealed a cyclist whose role was crucial in Lance’s downfall.

Paul Kimmage exposes doping in the cycling sport

During the Indo Daily podcast, Paul Kimmage spoke about how Floyd Landis had always followed the unspoken rules in cycling. “You don’t tell any secrets, you respect the merited and you keep your mouth shut. Further adding, Kimmage disclosed about Floyd, “He’d doped himself, he’d seen Lance do it.” Floyd Landis was Armstrong’s teammate in the Tour de France cycling events. 

The sports journalist narrated that Floyd was riding for a very small team in the 2009 California tour. Continuing, he said that this was a source of irritation to Floyd. Kimmage also told about Floyd’s struggle with the small team and his aggravation at seeing Lance’s increasing popularity. 

 

Paul then spoke about how Floyd sent an email to Steve Johnson about doping in cycling. Steve Johnson was the CEO of the US Cycling Federation. Further, Paul Kimmage remarked how emails sent by Landis about doping were later printed in the Wall Street Journal, making the doping scandal public. Speaking about Lance’s reaction, Kimmage then expressed that Armstrong denied the allegations at first.

The renowned journalist was also critical of the role of the IAAF in preventing doping. His view about IAAF was, a “governing body that isn’t trying to tackle the doping problem but is rather just trying to manage it.” He also gave his frank opinion that though the governing body had the results of the athletes’ blood tests, still there wasn’t any evidence of sanctions. 

A short history of Lance Armstrong and Paul Kimmage’s verbal battles

During a radio interview, Kimmage said that Lance is a cancer of the sport. In response, Lance made a statement that Paul Kimmage was not worth the chair he was sitting on. Kimmage then told Lance Armstrong to appear for an interview. Till now, Lance has not taken Paul Kimmage’s offer to appear in an interview.
