The once legendary cyclist Lance Armstrong, who won the grueling Tour de France a record SEVEN times, lost almost everything he earned because of his actions. But what was even more disheartening was the way he tried to deny the accusations.

That all changed when Lance had a chat with his son. He came clean about his actions and admitted to everything. But what was the conversation with his son?

Lance Armstrong told his children the truth

For any child, their parents are the first point of contact in the world. What the parents preach defines how the child grows. And the Armstrong family had a close connection. They are always ready to take a stand on one of their own. And this ‘taking a stand’ is when Lance finally decided to come clean about his actions.

In an interview, Lance said“When this all really started, I saw my son defending me and saying, ‘That’s not true. What you’re saying about my dad? That’s not true,’ That’s when I knew I had to talk.” Armstrong stated that he sat with his children during the holidays and told them the truth.

“I said, ‘Listen, there’s been a lot of questions about your dad, about my career, and whether I doped or did not dope,'” he said he told them. “‘I always denied that. I’ve always been ruthless and defiant about that, which is why you defended me, which makes it even sicker,’ I said. ‘I want you to know that it’s true,'” admitted Lance.

This was the conversation that eventually led to Lance deciding to come clean in front of the world. A painful and difficult conversation, but a truthful one. And we can only assume Lance must have felt an enormous weight lifted off his chest.

The most humbling moment after his fall

After the US Anti-Doping Agency alleged Lance of doping throughout his career, he began losing everything. All his major sponsors, including Nike, Anheuser Busch, and Trek, called him to end their endorsements. But this was not the most humbling moment for Lance.

It was when the charity foundation, Livestrong (a charity he founded at 25), called him. They asked Lance to ‘consider stepping down.’ It was a call Lance never expected to receive, even after coming clean. Armstrong first stepped down as the chairman of the board. He was then asked to end his association with the charity completely.
