Possibly the biggest suffering anything can cause a human being is his own guilt and regret. Most people are strong enough to deal with what’s happening outside, however, to deal with the turmoil going inside one’s mind, that’s when people break like sandcastles. Cycling legend Lance Armstrong is still as proud as he was 20 years ago, though maybe what has changed now is his perspective about what could have been possible if he’d taken different decisions back when he was competing professionally.

With seven consecutive Tour de France titles, a dozen world records under his name, and the recognition of a legend in the game, Lance Armstrong had it all until he didn’t. For his involvement in the doping scandal, he was stripped of all his accomplishments during his career. Lance Armstrong revealed who his peers would be if he was still competing

Given his achievements, Lance certainly would think about a different scenario for himself. Though on the subject of self-introspection, Lance said, “The last five years have really caused me to pause and try to understand much as myself, but what this story meant to other people or what this story meant to the world. And that’s a heavy thing to think about.”

Talking about who his peers would have been, he added, “If I was competing today. My peers would be Michael Phelps and LeBron James. So I see where they are and so it’s only now that I realize that okay, that’s where you were, that’s where I was. And I really don’t miss that and I think if I’d stayed there it wouldn’t have been good for my family.”

For Lance, it’s all in the past. All the glory, all the admiration, and all the decisions he could’ve made. However, one thing that he is somewhat right about was choosing his possible peers. Given that he was the best out there at that time if Lance did things a bit differently, he probably would have had similar stardom as Michael Phelps and LeBron James.
