JB Mauney has been a household name when it comes to bull riding. He has been confirmed the title of one of the greatest of all time and his glittering career is testimony of it. Mauney had the ability to ride any bull with his riding style and skill. In his career, he had shown dedication and courage after coming back from injuries stronger.

But, unfortunately, the bull rider enthusiasts will no longer have the chance to see the legendary perform live at the arena. In his latest social media post, Mauney shared a shocking piece of news that left the rodeo world saddened. The news came after he got injured at a recent bull riding event and was hospitalized.

Bull riding star shares a shocking update

For the last decade or more, bull riding enthusiasts grew up watching JB Mauney riding the bulls and tricking the beast to stay on it for more than eight seconds. The spectators were left in awe of his riding skill and passion. Sadly, these are now part of history as the legend in a shocking update announced his retirement from the game he loved the most and dedicated his life to. In an Instagram post, Mauney shared the news, starting with “All I can say is it’s been quite a party!” In the post, he shared a picture of him with his wife as he held his son in his arms.

In the post, the champion shared that after the neck injury at the Lewiston Roundup, he underwent surgery at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. In the surgery, rods, plates, and screws were inseted and a disc was removed. The surgery was successful and he thanked the hospital staff for taking good care of him. At the end of the caption he mentioned that due to the surgery he won’t be able to ride again and thus, is announcing his retirement. He added that he was okay and on the road to recovery. The message brings an end to his illustrious career that saw courage, determination, failure, injury, happiness, and success. But most of all, he entertained the world and marked his name in their heart.

End of a bull riding era

One of the best bull riders of all time is not just a statement but a fact that is recorded and witnessed by millions. JB Mauney’s other name was Dragonslayer at the arena for his skill in riding any bull. He is one of the best and decorated cowboys in PBR. He claimed the Rookie of the Year award in the year 2006. Then, he won the PBR World Finals Event Champion twice – in 2009 and 2016. Later on, he cemented his position among the best bull riders after claiming the PBR World Championships title two times – in 2013 and 2015.

In the year 2021, he left PBR and went to PRCA. In PRCA, the same year, he qualified for the National Finals Rodeo. His National Finals Rodeo debut was featured with his first-round ride of 87.5-point, which helped him win the round at Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas.
