The seventh edition of the Canadian Professional Bull Riding Cup Series was held at Grande Prairie, Alberta. The event was the PBR Peace Country Invitational in Bonnetts Energy Centre. The atmosphere in the arena was electrifying with spectators’ excitement and bull riders’ incredible performances.

At the event among all the athletes, one bull rider showed an outstanding performance that stood out from the rest, and with it, he achieved the number one position in the championship series. The bull rider is none other than Dakota Buttar. Prior to this event, he was in the third position in the overall ranking and this time made his way to the top.

The PBR Canada national finals is set to take place in November. As the finals is approaching near and few event are left in the championship series season, the fight for the top place is becoming more competitive. According to PBR, after the PBR Peace Country Invitational, the national standings once again changed and Dakota Buttar claimed the first position. He had a perfect 3-3 ride at the event. In the first round, he was paired with War Boy. Buttar overcame the challenging bull and scored 84 points, the third highest score of the round. In the second round, Buttar was against Hanna Motors Broken Halo. The 2022 PBR Canada Champion displayed his experience and scored an 87 point ride on the bull. He qualified for the last final round as the leader on the board.

In the final round, the 30-year-old bull rider was up against Chico. When bursted out of the gate, he completed the eight seconds on the beast. There was a review taken by the officials on his ride after claims of buck off but later the decision went in Buttar’s favor and they gave him 89.5 points. With that, he clinched the victory and claimed the first position in the national ranking. He had earlier finished second in the Grande Prairie 5-5  scoring  85.5 points ride on Desperado. Eventually, he collected 158 points at Grande Prairie and claimed the first position. He is 10.84 points ahead of second position holder Cody Coverchuck.

How the national standing looks after Grande Prairie

After the PBR Peace Country Invitational, the national standings changed. The top five bull riders at the standing are Dakota Buttar, Cody Coverchuck, Nick Tetz, Coy Robbins and Aaron Roy. Dakota Buttar is on top with 614.5 points from 27 events. Cody Coverchuck is at the second with 603.66 points from 39 events. The third place is held by Nick Tetz who has 592.5 in 24 events. He is 22 points behind the leader. The fourth position is held by Coy Robbins with 550.66 points from 20 events and the fifth is held by Aaron Roy with 459.5 points from 37 events.

The triumph of Dakota Buttar shall play an important role in motivating the 30-year-old in giving his best for the rest of the season as the gap between the first three position holder in marginal.
