It was yet another perilous evening for the Texas Rattlers member at the Professional Bull Riders’ organized event. After battling in the season-opening showdown, the eight founding teams of the league are now officially back in play. Earlier on July 27, the PBR season got off to an intriguing start in Cheyenne, Wyoming. While the August scheduled PBR events take place over multiple days in early August. Now, the second dirt ground of the sport is hosted by the Kansas City Outlaws.

The evenings are starting to accrue perfect points owing to an amazing lineup of professional bull riders competing 5-on-5. Finally, the season appears to be in full swing as the riders emerge from the fall-off bull earning their incredible scores. It was only on the opening day of the event that an unfriendly encounter put the spectators on the edge.

Day 1 of the 2023 PBR Teams Series Outlaw Days event saw Texas Rattlers and Oklahoma Freedom compete in the first lineup. An inclination towards Freedom’s win neared when Daniel Keeping, the Rattlers’ last-ditch winning hope, went last in the queue. He got off to a good start, but around halfway through he started to lose control of Smooth Steel, the bull, which led to a chaotic fall. PBR posted a video of his action on their YouTube account, which captured the crucial few seconds of his defeat.

The initial face-off was thrown in a tight 6.94 seconds. Both the Rattlers and the Freedom gave nearly identical outings in the second. Rattlers’ second line-up was given a second chance after a chute collision and with a fractured right leg, Oklahoma’s second was kicked off in 3.69 seconds. The Rattlers’ first buck-off started the third, which was overturned in 3.34 seconds. The first potential scorer from either team to score came from Oklahoma’s Captain in the bottom of the third. A re-ride was given following his ride at the top with 70 points, then the fourth was entered.

The game grew intense in the next round when the Rattlers started the fourth with back-to-back outs in the penultimate frame of the game. Oklahoma took over by 68 points after the team’s second qualifying ride score of 86.5 points. Lastly, with an awful 6.36 seconds, Smooth Steel bucked off Keeping to preserve Oklahoma’s victory. The Oklahoma Freedom took against the Texas Rattlers at the T-Mobile Center by one ride score. Oklahoma beat Texas with a score of 156.5-88.5, outscoring Texas by 68 points. Despite the outcome, the community had high hopes for Keeping after his amazing wins earlier this year.
