18-year-old John Crimber’s ascent in bull riding is news to not many. Growing up with a stronger influence backing his interest, the PBR tagged ‘Teenage Phenomenon,’ has held the eyes of industry greats for long. Hence, when he made his awaited Unleash the Beast debut in November last year, it wouldn’t be a surprise to say the youngster had the spotlight on him entering the Tucson Arena.
However, under the freshness of new grounds or expectations of long-lingering spectators, John Crimber’s UTB debut round wasn’t to yield a kind outcome. Today as he continues on the road to greatness, the youngster reflects on the buck-off further challenging the path ahead.
John Crimber reminisces UTB debut

In his latest episode of ‘Rise to Greatness: The John Crimber Story’ the youngster speaks of his journey to UTB and beyond. “I felt really really pressured when I got into that bucking shoot,” the 18-year-old recalls. Just 3.71 seconds later, aboard his first-ever UTB bovine opponent, Border Wall, the youngster swayed in a quick left to right movement to come crashing down. The incident had the medical team speculating a ‘possible concussion’ owning to the fall’s harshness. “We didn’t know if John had a concussion or not, but it’s what we look at as it’s a possible concussion,” PBR medical team member, Rich Blyn states.
However, a few tests proved John Crimber cleared out of the uncertainty. The 18-year-old admitted that it had been a while since he experienced a slam that hard and hoped for another ride. “This is not me,” he reveals to have told himself. Thus, when he couldn’t fulfill his goal of ‘not losing’ in round 1 shifted to a goal of ‘here to win,’ for round 2.

A drive to sit back up
John Crimber grew up wanting to be a bull rider thanks to his 10-time PBR Worlds finalist father, Paulo. The latter’s presence and experience brought along the required training and inspiration for the rising name. Thus, even when his UTB round 1 debut delivered an upset, John knew to get back up, to rise despite the many eyes watching him closely. “The first day I was just trying not to lose. Second day, I was there to win,” he remarks.

The youngster thus getting himself off the pressure, went on to win Round 2 courtesy of his 89-point performance. John Crimber further adds that he was there to defy what the commentators had said the other day following his fall: Welcome to big league. This is totally different level. “I am gonna show them that this is not a different level. This is just another bull ride.” And more recently, the 18-year-old posted 86.75, 88.25, and 89.75 to finish 2nd for the series’ 10th week.
