Respect, accolades, and recognition have framed JB Mauney to be one of the greats of the bull-riding world. “He will forever be in the conversation as the greatest the PBR has ever seen,” is what fellow world champion, Justin McBride opinionated about the legend. Today, as Mauney bucked into another year of life, on-ground or off, the statement received a backing ever-so-visible.
Mauney has been a Cowboy for most part of his life. Joining PBR at the age of 18, world championships, qualified rides, and challenger tours have grown to define the bull riding icon as the best but definitely not all. The 2006 Rookie of the Year, turning 37, today, stood to witness the impact he has held over the past 18 years of his career.
Love pours in for the bull-riding icon JB Mauney

On the 9th of January, JB Mauney turned 37 with 19 years of bull riding recognition. As he celebrated another year around the Sun, the industry celebrated with him. From Ky Hamilton, Dale Brisby, and John Crimber to Wrangler Western, numerous joined in. “Happy 50th @Jbmauneyxv,” Hamilton wrote as he shared a picture of the 2-time world champion on his story. It was further followed by Dale Brisby sharing a whole post for Mauney. “Happy birthday to @jbmauneyxv #JBDBBuckinBulls,” he captioned sharing a moment from their Rodeo Vegas co-hosting session.

While PRCA Xtreme Roughstock asserted Mauney as the GOAT, the bull riding Teenage Phenomenon, John Crimber shared admiration. “Happy birthday to the guy I have always looked up to, the (goat) JB Mauney,” the youngster wrote. While many little notes flowed in, Wrangler Western expressed their heartfelt paean to the icon’s career sharing one of his wiser sayings.

Words of Wisdom from the Dragon Slayer
In January 2018, JB Mauney became the first rider in history to reach 500 rides and he did so with a spectacle. Bushwacker, SweetPro’s Bruiser, Asteroid, and more of the rankest of bulls were matched to the stride by Mauney in his career. The agility and feat, led the champion to be nicknamed the ‘Dragon Slayer’. And today, sharing the ‘Words of wisdom from the Dragon Slayer himself,’ Wrangler Western wished the bull riding icon a happy birthday.

“A teaspoon of try will outdo a bucket of talent any day. You can have all the talent in the world. But if you don’t have a little bit of try to go with it, it is not going to get you very far.” Through injuries and through hardships, Mauney kept his ground, treading forward. However, later last year, suffering a broken neck pushed the champion out of the grounds and into retirement. While he proceeds on a new path, his bull riding legacy remains untouched.
