Lewiston Roundup has hosted the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s Xtreme Bulls event 19 times in a row. It is an important event on the bull riding calendar, attracting top riders from across the country. This year was no different, but the performances from the top-tier bull riders were lacking in comparison to one young man from Idaho. According to The Lewiston Tribune, the first night of the tour saw disappointing rides from professional cowboys, while only Tristen Hutchings managed to contend against the feisty bull. He became the 2023 bull riding champion of the Lewiston Roundup with an 87.5-point ride.
Tristen Hutchings entered the grounds on Lapua. Hutching’s bull favored the left and spun in that direction while bucking continuously. He held on to the reins in a firm grip with one hand while keeping the other raised in the air. After the event, he said, “I’m an Idaho cowboy, so anytime I can get into Idaho and ride, it’s good for me”. However, the fans had gathered to watch the best riders get bucked off the bulls, and the Lewiston Roundup did not disappoint.

World champions face trouble at Lewiston Roundup
The massive animals displayed unparalleled rage toward the riders who flailed about on their backs. They hazed each skilled rider thoroughly and threw them down on the turf. This included the legendary bull rider JB Mauney, known for his exceptional strength. However, his bid for the bull riding trophy atop the fierce Arctic Assassin was short-lived. The bull threw Mauney off its back, and he somersaulted onto the floor, hitting his neck and head. Mauney’s experience on the bull set the tone for the event, as nine more bull riders failed to stay on until the bell. Even the reigning world champion struggled to maintain balance on the ferocious beast.

Stetson Wright is a beloved figure in the bull riding community in Idaho. The Milford native won the respect of all by winning seven world championships. He rode on the ferocious Safety Man on Wednesday and stayed on its back eight seconds past the bell. He scored 83 points that fell short of even T Parker, a rider from Winnie in his rookie year. Hayes T. Weight had the highest score, which he had made for surviving the frantic spins of Silver Bullet. This changed when Tristen Hutchings finished his ride. The electrifying night at the Lewiston Roundup showcased bull riding at its pinnacle, a testament to the sheer excellence of this extreme sport.
