The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) stated, ‘The sport of bull riding will never be the same.’ Country music star Parker McCollum referred to Mauney as ‘The GOAT,’ and fellow rider Cody Nance expressed gratitude and well wishes for his retirement.

Despite already competing with a broken foot, he faced an accident that necessitated surgery involving the removal of a disc and the placement of a rod, plates, and screws. Popularly known as the ‘Dragonslayer,’ Mauney shared on Facebook that this surgery effectively marked the conclusion of his bull riding career.
