The PBR’s Pendleton Whiskey Velocity Tour reached Hampton for a 2-day day showcase on the 23rd of February. Amidst formidable bovine athletes and a roaring crowd, the spotlight shone on only a few riders who claimed ownership of a tougher battle. As the fierceness continued onto the following evening, the 16th week spectacle presented its bull riding champion, well declared from the initial moments: Dener Barbosa.
The first evening of the Hampton Velocity Tour stood to be troublesome for more athletes than not. However, Dener Barbosa hopped off the list quite quick to make his reckoning presence known not just through the two evenings but the week on Velocity Tour.
Dener Barbosa persists in dominance

For the first round on the 23rd of Feb, Dener Barbosa took on Rip Tide in hopes of making only the third qualified ride of the evening. However, the ride proved troublesome when he failed to get out of the chute and start the ride. Hence when The Undertaker was assigned to the bull riding star next, he ensured to rise stronger. The Nashville Stampede rider matched stride for 8 seconds to secure 86 points and a further 28 velocity points for the evening. The closing act catapulted Barbosa to the top spot for the evening, helping him with the momentum on day 2.

Dener Barbosa went atop Smooth Kat for Round 2 which secured him 85 points and a spot in the champions round. However, 3.64 seconds into his last ride, the Brazilian bull-riding fame was bucked off by Diamond in the Ruff. His performance for the initial rounds nonetheless ensured a comfortable lead alongside 128 velocity points. The numbers hence led Barbosa toward the title while Kyler Oliver followed right behind going 1-for-3. The climb up the stage would mark Dener’s second in a week following his spectacle in Memphis.

The bull riding veteran’s initial run up the podium
On the 17th of Feb, Memphis, Tennessee stood to host the finest of bull riding names in a battle for points. And as it welcomed the stars, in arrived the unstoppable Dener Barbosa. The Brazilian became only one of the three riders to go 2-for-2 and grab the deserved event title. For round 1 Barbosa was paired with Cold Front, a battle against whom secured the champ a total of 84.50 points.

In the round that followed, Dener Barbosa performed to be only the 4th rider to achieve a qualified ride. In doing so, the Nashville Stampede’s beloved veteran matched strides with Johnny Rocket for 86.5 points. The 123.5 Velocity Global points of then and 128 more today have placed Barbosa in the 5th spot in the world standings. With 2 more months to go, the Brazilian will look to rise ahead.
