Mason Lowe was one of the finest bull riders of his era. In 2015, he earned a 6-figure at the PBR World Finals and the very next year; he fetched his career first 90-point ride. His progress had the community considering him an up-and-coming talent in contention with the veteran riders. However, in 2019, his legacy came to an end as his untimely demise in a PBR ring sent shockwaves across the rodeo community. Years later, he remains in hearts as fellow riders continue to honor him.

In one of the recent rodeos of PBR, it was an evening of spectacles. While Brady Fielder became the first Aussie since 2015 to secure a UTB win, Mason Lowe received a tribute in the presence of the finest. As thousands gleamed, the organization did too.

The bull riding icon receives admiration

Over the past week, in Manchester, New Hampshire, the Unleash the Beast series took its next towards finding the ultimate rider. As 40 riders contested, Australian champ, Brady Fielder emerged successfully clinching the event title with a marvelling 91-point-ride. However, what caught the audience’s eyes equally well was Bob Mitchell’s tribute to the late Mason Lowe. Atop Panic Button for over 8 seconds, securing only the second qualified round for the night. “A cowboy’s tribute. In Remembrance of Mason Lowe, Bob Mitchell rides for more than the 8 seconds in his custom chaps,” PBR wrote, sharing the clip.

Bob Mitchell wore Lowe’s replica pair of chaffs as he rode on Monday. The apparel was something he had earned from his win at last year’s Ridin’ with Mason Lowe; an event that paid tribute to the star that Mason was. For Bob Mitchell, who was a youngster looking up to his hero, Mason, the homage/ode emanated deep from the heart.

“I was so scared to meet him. I was probably 14 or 15…was scared to talk to him, but I did look up to him. He was a heck of a bull rider. I talked to him a couple of times… he would always say, ‘Good job buddy, Mitchell recalled later last year. Like Bob, several of the bull riding finest rode in honor of the fallen star.

A wish to not let down and uphold for posterity

A month after Mason’s passing away, a memorial rodeo was held in his name. Chase Outlaw, Cooper Davis, Ezekiel Mitchell, and more announced their presence. Chase Outlaw saying the win ‘might be the most special of his career,‘ dedicated his victory to Mason. As for Mitchell, the rider wished not to let Lowe down.

“If I’d have bucked off today, Mason would’ve had some words that I probably can’t mention,” Mitchell stated. Lowe’s death called upon numerous events, charities, and even a scholarship program by PBR. While Lowe may have passed, his bull riding legacy remains forever and ever.
