The boxing division of Team USA is bringing one good news after another from the Pan American Championship. After all, the finals of the Pan American championship hold a prestigious ticket to the upcoming Olympics in Paris. The latest bearer of good news and an Olympic berth for Paris & America’s super heavyweight boxing star, Joshua Edwards.

Joshua Edwards is a 23-year-old boxer who fights in the 92kg+ weight class. A recently uploaded tweet broke the news of the qualification of Edwards, which has pleasantly surprised everyone. Especially because not very long ago, Joshua Edwards was willing to give up his boxing career for good.

The U-turn from quitting boxing that led to Paris

Joshua Edwards took the sport after his father motivated and trained him. The young boxer is naturally good at the sport and has been boxing since he was six. Interestingly, the young boxer’s father trained at the same gym as that of Muhammad Ali. These things channeled the spirit, dedication, determination, and discipline in him. Team USA recently made a tweet showcasing a poster of Edwards on their official X accounts.

The caption of the tweet reads, “Dreams becoming reality. Joshua Edwards is headed to @Paris2024! #RoadToParis | #Santiago2023.” Edwards faced Cuba’s Fernando Arzola in the semi-final match that led to his Olympic qualification. The US boxing sensation said that his father always cheered and motivated him to achieve greater heights. While Joshua Edwards has now attained the status of an Olympian, there was a time when he was very unhappy with boxing. Moreover, he wanted to just quit and start playing some other sport,

Speaking about the issue, Edwards said, “There were times when I wanted to quit. I thought about quitting and focusing on basketball in high school, but I could see that if I quit it would tear my dad apart.” While he decided to stay for his dad, his hard work that made him an Olympian states his own love for the sport. While Joshua Edwards qualified for the Olympics, another boxing star from the US bagged an Olympics berth. In fact, she is the first woman from Cleveland to ever go to the Olympics.

Morelle McCane becomes the first Cleveland woman to reach the Olympics

Morelle McCane also qualified for the Olympics after a dominating performance throughout the Pan American Championship. Just like Joshua Edwards, the avid boxer, also started boxing following her brother. Unfortunately, McCane’s brother passed away, but she still hasn’t said goodbye to boxing. Instead, McCane now derives strength and motivation from her nieces and nephews.
