Smith said, “Well, the No.1 thing I said I’d do was honor my mother. She’s the greatest woman, greatest… I’ve ever known. So she was very, very straightforward. Very unapologetic about what she demanded from me, what she wanted from me, her belief in me, her expectations for me and she held me to a standard and consistently not just that.”

Opening about his relationship with her, he added, “Yeah…. When I let go of my ESPN, I went to my home; I was laying in my bunk bed that I grew up in; she served me breakfast and my little eggs, scrambled eggs, toasted bacon… just like I like it.” All this truly is a testament to the fact the love and impact a mother has on her child. Stephen, being the youngest of six children, truly showed how to achieve great success when one has the right ambition.

Contrary to his usual entertaining views, The New York Times Best Seller has recently advised a fan on who should we surround ourselves with. As his tribute to his mother comes up, it is important to hear Smith’s life mantra.

Smith said, “First of all, you got to surround yourself with the right people and people who love you. I didn’t say yes people who are just going to tell you what you want to hear, I said, surrounding yourself with people who love you because sometimes people who love you don’t tell you what you want to hear. They tell you what you need to hear, and so I think that’s incredibly important.”

Smith’s statement resonates exactly with how his mother treated him, demanding the best, and giving her honest take to him. These are the things that push an individual to strive for better. That being said, the advice might be of help, not just to Victor Lincoln, but to all those who wish to have some sort of balance in life.
