While undergoing the road to recovery, an Olympic Gold Medalist with a 20-year career speciality in boxing currently overcomes one of the biggest life-threatening phases of his life. With his career not at risk, the MMA retired boxer Satoshi Ishii is now at a stage in life where surgeries have become a part of his daily routine.
The Japan-born sportsperson, now retired, has a diversified career that includes his specification in judo, mixed martial arts, professional boxing, and kickboxing. With such diversification, Satoshi’s onset period as a Judo player saw prominence with a silver medal win in the Asian Games of 2006 followed by a gold medal win at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. His career later followed with a 2019 HEAT Heavyweight Championship Title win against reigning champion Cally Gibrainn de Oliveira comes as an added achievement to the list along with several other accolades of his career.
Irrespective of his career achievements, the weightage now goes to the Japanese-Croatian player’s current situation, which adds pressure to his ongoing life. From having sustained injuries in his professional career, Satoshi Ishii now recovering from a neck surgery happened this week.

Carrying a dominant personality in the ring, Satoshi’s personal life has given the biggest setbacks overcoming illness coming as a threat to his life. While taking to Instagram this week, the boxer updates his fans on his ongoing recovery from a current neck surgery. “Went under the knife today. I needed to have a simple surgery on my neck. I can be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. I’m gradually recovering from health issues. I have faith in myself to come back to being active soon.”
Carrying hopes of an active comeback from the minor surgery recovery, Satoshi Ishii is expected to get discharged in a day or two. However this neck surgery was the fourth one the boxer underwent. It was before this that he faced three major surgeries of his life causing one of the most life-threatening phases.

Surgeries are not normal and to experience and in this scenario four of them is not everyone’s cup of tea. Recovering from the neck surgery now, Satoshi Ishii has been suffering from a spinal infection called sepsis prior causing him a great deal of threat to his life with a total of three surgeries accompanied. While having finished of his third one this month, Satoshi’s upper body part left him paralyzed leaving him helpless to even lift even 2kg weight. However, as doctor prescribed, a proper recovery will require him with good rehabilitation and therapy sessions.
Before his infection, the former martial arts sports person remained busy filming for the movie ‘The Smashing Machine’ directed by Benny Safdie. Playing the role of Enson Inoue, the biological sports drama will release next year in 2025 with famous hollywood personalities like Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt casted in the leading role.
