This is the story of a man who turned his life around at the age of 55. Yves Tighe was tied up in the toxic lifestyle of a typical IT sector employee where a few drinks with mates on weekends was the norm. This led to him putting on an unhealthy amount of weight and being at risk of developing severe health issues.

One visit to the doctor was all Tighe needed to finally get his life back on track. At one point, Tighe’s weight had crossed 242 lbs. With the help of a personal trainer, Tighe made the impossible happen. Not only did he lose the extra mass, but he also build his body well enough to compete in bodybuilding competitions.

Yves Tighe is an IT consultant from Braintree, UK. Despite being a regular at the gym, Tighe never followed a strict diet. His family owned a restaurant which led him to regularly eat food rich in carbs. Adding to the mix were his unhealthy after-work drinking habits. The effect of the hazardous combination led to his doctor suggesting a cholesterol test. The results were as he had feared. Tighe was hanging on the lines of high cholesterol. This was the wake-up call for him.

As his first step towards a fit life, Tighe took up boxing. Later he transitioned to Crossfit but didn’t stick with it for long. Ultimately he joined the “Ultimate Performance” gym in London. The main target for Tighe was to keep a check on his eating habits. Talking about it he said, “Diet for me was always an issue. I thought I ate healthily, but was eating the wrong foods and always drank alcohol.”

Tighe soon started working with his personal trainer on a weight loss program. The trainer encouraged him to cut down on his carbs consumption and increase his vegetable and protein intake. Eventually, all his hard work paid off but Tighe wasn’t satisfied with the results. Yves Tighe said, “The result was a very skinny me, and whilst achieved the initial goals that wasn’t a look I particularly liked.” He then trained to put on some healthy mass.

For him, bodybuilding was something he had always dreamed of but never thought about actually giving it a shot. “To go on stage and be an actual bodybuilder was something I dreamt of, but never imagined possible in reality,” said Yves Tighe.

Sharing his experience after his competitions, Tighe said, “I didn’t even go into it as a competition. I just went in for it to be up on the stage and feel I belong.” Ever since he began competing Tighe has won two bodybuilding competitions in the UK.
