Naturally, he is an inspiration for many who want to be like him. One might think he has some secret diet or routine, which he follows to stay in form. However, the reality is not away from the basics.

Phil Heath and his diet philosophy

In a video released in 2014 by TigerFitness.com, Phil discussed the bodybuilding industry, supplements, and gifted nutrition with Marc Lobliner. Phil shared his secret, which is nothing but staying true to the diet and routine. Something as simple as ‘discipline’ is the reason behind his spectacular form. However, following a diet isn’t as straightforward as it sounds.

It is common knowledge that dieting isn’t an effortless task. It takes real devotion and willpower to control your cravings, give up on those delicacies, and just stick to the plan. People often give in to these temptations and cheat on their diet plans. It is a common practice to have a cheat day included in the plan.

Talking about the cheat meals, Heath said, “I’m not doing cheat meals or anything like that, which sucks. You kind of want that, but my trainer, Hany Rambod and I, we normally say, why don’t we add more fats in; some avocado, different types of fish, steak meals, or a higher carb intake rather than to just go out and say, okay, go out and have a burger.”

Are cheeseburgers a good idea for a cheat meal?

The trainers who suggest cheeseburgers and fries to their clients for cheat meals completely appalled Heath. He said, “It’s like yeah, that’s cool, but you’re not gonna get a lot of protein in that meal. More than likely, if you tell a guy to have a cheat meal, he’s gonna go to McDonalds. If you’re smart, you’re gonna make a burger at home. Who wants to do that? You’re not going to do that. You’re gonna go a to a nice grocery store, get some 96% lean ground beef, and make a nice burger? (note: this is what Hany recommends) No, you’re gonna go eat garbage and 2-3,000 calories.”

Furthermore, he adds that cheat meals are to help the body. However, the way people usually follow cheat meals will do them no good. He said, “You’re gonna be a bloated mess. Those cheats are supposed to help you get better, to reset your body a little bit, not to satisfy a desire in your brain.”
