In the world of strength sports, few events are as anticipated as a record-breaking feat of strength. That was exactly the case when Hafthor Bjornson and Eddie Hall set their sights on breaking the 501kg deadlift record. The debate over the legitimacy of the 501kg deadlift record set by Hafthor Bjornson in 2020 has been ongoing since the day he broke the record. Hall, the previous record holder, argued that the lift had not been performed under the controlled circumstances necessary for his prior result to be overturned.

However, the debate reached a new level in 2022 when Hafthor and Eddie Hall, both the former world’s strongest men, got into a heated debate over the record on IFL TV.

During the debate, the host asked Eddie Hall about his thoughts on Hafthor’s record-breaking lift. In a resurfaced video of the interview, Eddie, who held the record before Hafthor, was quick to voice his opinion that Hafthor’s lift was not legitimate because he broke the record in his personal space. Hall asked Thor, “If I pulled 501 kilos in my home gym would you accept it? “

Hafthor, who was also a guest on the show, immediately fired back, saying that the bar, weight, and conditions he used were approved by the officials and met all the necessary requirements. Thor further alleged Hall to have used his close allies as referees to portray the faulty weight as the real ones. ” you did your f***ing record though with your best mate Colin Bryce and your business partners”

The debate quickly became heated, with both Hafthor and Eddie defending their positions passionately. Eddie claimed that Hafthor had an unfair advantage and that his own record, set with a standard bar, was a more legitimate achievement. Hafthor, on the other hand, argued that he had followed all the rules and regulations and that his lift was a legitimate world record.
