Former bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno is counted as one of the most influential bodybuilders. He was one of the toughest competitors for 7-time Mr. Olympia winner Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, it wasn’t the only occupation that gave him fame. His popularity skyrocketed once he got cast as the Hulk in the 1977 television series ‘The Incredible Hulk’.

However, his immense physique was the first factor to cast Ferrigno in the series. But Ferrigno brought the character to life with his brilliant performances. A few years back, in 2019, Ferrigno gave his serious opinion on the Hulk character’s growth in Marvel throughout the years.

Those are some serious comments by Lou Ferrigno

Lou Ferrigno is the first Hulk the world ever watched. He initiated one of the most popular characters of the franchise. Moreover, Ferrigno began the craze for the green, monstrous-looking superhuman who helped people. Being the first to depict the character to the world, he has seen the character evolving constantly throughout the years.

Similarly, Ferrigno expressed his opinion on the Hulk’s characterization in the Marvel movies. Ferrigno said“I think he’s a wonderful actor, he blends in with the Marvel aspect of the Avengers — but I can’t take him seriously enough.” Lou compared the other actors who played the characters and mentioned the way Marvel has changed the dimension of Hulk’s character.

He added, “Bill has that intensity, and you knew that when he was in danger, you could feel that intensity. But because of Marvel and Disney, they’ve taken a different direction. You can’t take it as seriously as the original series.” 

Ferrigno connected with the Hulk’s character

Lou Ferrigno had a tough childhood. Even though he developed a massive build for his professional life, he once revealed how he got beat up as a kid in school. Moreover, after picking up bodybuilding as his career, he was laughed at by his friends. Although he got extremely famous for his bodybuilding career, due to financial struggles, he left bodybuilding.

He once said“I was fascinated with the power of this superhero. The thing I liked about the Hulk was the fact that he was like a hideous-looking creature, but at the same time it was like good vs evil where he would save people’s lives.”
