Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are two of Hollywood’s most loved action superstars. The two legends ruled the screens like none other. Great friends presently, the two were once each other’s rivals. Such was the popularity of their decades-long rivalry, it was famously labeled as the “Schwarzenegger–Stallone rivalry” by the media. Revisiting the days gone by, Arnold talked about their infamous competition.
The Schwarzenegger–Stallone rivalry
Brushing aside their differences, the two legends share a great bond. But it was not always the same; having seen tough days, the two always made sure to give their best. Speaking about the time in the ’80s, Arnie said, “We were very competitive.”
The Mr. Universe winner shed more light on the type of competition they had. Arnold said that in the mid-’80s, when he ran into Sly, he could not help but say, “I think that on Commando, I killed more people than you did on Rambo.” Brushing aside all of Arnold’s thoughts, Stallone was quick to inform that he had, as a fact, killed “97 people.”
Having killed only 93 people in the movie, Arnold was, at that point, a little disappointed! He quickly confessed, “Okay, so you win this one.” However, the Terminator actor promptly bounced back, saying, “Next movie, I would be killing over 100!” But Stallone reassured him, saying, “Don’t worry, you are never gonna catch up!”
Aging like fine wine, the two stars have come a long way. Starting everything from scratch, the two never missed a chance to give their best onscreen.
Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger had a healthy ego
The ’80s saw a lot of Arnold and Stallone fighting on and off the screen. It was said that the feud started when Stallone threw a flower bowl at Arnie during the Golden Globes ceremony. They never missed a chance to share their take on the another- and it continues in tongue-in-cheek fashion today.
