Hurdles can make or break your life. It can either compel you to give up or make you resilient enough to face it with determination. Joe Wicks did the latter. After spending his earlier days as a disruptive child, this fitness enthusiast eventually became one of the most well-known personal trainers in the world.

Wicks gave an interview to the New York Post on 27th February, where he opened up about his mission to make the world fitter, healthier and happier. The British fitness junkie promotes his physical education program all over the world. But how was the experience that he had to face while growing up?

The 37-year-old health instructor is now in Australia for his fitness program, PE with Joe. Apparently, he has been training millions of clients digitally. But the path to becoming the most sought-after coach was not easy. Wicks has always been open to his troubled childhood. He was only 12 when his mother left him with his father.

His mother was 19 at the time of his birth and suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder and an eating disorder and always feared losing her child. However, this uncontrolled family situation impacted Wicks’s mental health, and he was the disturbed child in the class who failed to concentrate on any particular matter. He said to New York Post, “For me, it was like a release – exercising, running around, playing sports and moving my body – I just really felt like it released a lot of that anxiety and stress in my body,” From his teenage, Wicks aspired to be a PE teacher as he implied, “I had this vision of going to university and doing a degree to become a PE teacher.” And that eventually landed where he is today, an accomplished fitness coach, providing online training to people around the world.

Jow Wicks’ online presence and rising popularity

After receiving his university degree, Joe was working with schools, visiting education facilities to do live workouts, but not getting the same traction; until COVID-19 happened. He used that time span and created a digital presence, The Body Coach, that is now pursued by 4.5 million followers on Instagram and 3 million on YouTube.

Wickes stated, “It took things to another level because there were kids in the UK doing it live with their grandma or their uncles or Auntie’s in Australia, who were doing the class in the evening.” That year was indeed something life-changing for this fitness sensation.
