Arnold Schwarzenegger grieves the loss of his friend
Doug Evans got into bodybuilding when he was just 12 years old. His determination to stay physically fit is impressive as he continued training well into his 90s. He got interested in fitness by lifting flat irons and baking stones in his childhood, which would help him strengthen his muscles. Eventually, the athlete would go on to travel the world as a pro judge at bodybuilding contests. This is how he first met and became friends with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Doug was judging Mr. Universe when he became friends with Arnold. They ended up grabbing a meal together and instantly hit it off. So much so that the 7x Mr. Olympia champion asked him to lend his expertise as a judge on the Mr. Olympia panel.
According to Christopher, his nephew, “He treated his body like a temple.”
He continued, “He looked after himself in all the years he lived by himself, and that was him and probably the way he wanted it. It would be amazing how much he knew about his body, and all the different muscles which sometimes would even surprise doctors.”
Doug Evans was a gentleman until his death
The fitness enthusiast was also a champion cyclist, besides being a gym rat. He used to train for four days a week (until 2019) despite having multiple surgeries, including a pacemaker. His doctor once told him, “The trouble with you Dougie, is that you’ve got the body of a man over 90, but the mind of a 19-year-old.

Doug was more than just an athlete. As his soul departs, he is remembered as a kind and humble human being. “He was a gentleman who would do anything for anybody- he would always make the time for people, he would even call his doctor sir – and was a gentleman up until his very last days,” said Christopher Evans.
