Although he was a bit hesitant, the then 32-year-old shared practical advice on weight management in aging people. “When you get older, you should slowly decrease the body weight, leaner and leaner because it’s better for your heart,” he stated, explaining his advice. It was followed by a woman asking the bodybuilding pro for advice. She was curious if isometrics can be integrated with one’s daily routine without setting time aside for exercise. Schwarzenegger didn’t seem convinced by the idea. Besides, he reasoned why it doesn’t help in achieving fitness goals.

Schwarzenegger recommended not to carry the burden all day long

In the 1979 interview, the Pumping Iron star suggested taking out 15-20 minutes to exercise with complete focus on one’s body rather than “carrying this burden all day long.” Furthermore, he said he wouldn’t exhaust his energy on his every move, trying to use muscles and burn off fat. “Because eventually you get sick and tired of doing it,” he explained.

In addition, he emphasized that women need to start exercising early. While the woman in the discussion tried to give it a non-feminine connotation, Schwarzenegger politely disagreed with it. 34 years later, in 2023, 75-year-old Schwarzenegger continues to advocate the significance of exercise in one’s daily routine.
