Arnold Schwarzenegger is an Austrian by birth, and before entering the world of bodybuilding, he served in the Austrian army. Interestingly, he was a phenomenal and fearless tank driver. In a 2018 interview, Schwarzenegger shared his bold attempt to drive a tank into ice.

Growing up in a household that practices discipline in every aspect, being organized started at an early age. As evident in his illustrious career across fields, he demonstrated a similar spirit and dedication to prove his potential in the army and didn’t shy away from doing whatever it took to prove his mettle.
Arnold Schwarzenegger impressed his superiors with his guts
Schwarzenegger joined the army in his late teens. Besides, he began contesting in bodybuilding competitions. Through the tank episode, the young Arnold showed that there was no doubt about how gutsy he was.
On whether he was a good tank driver, he described his tank driving skills as “fantastic.” Speaking more about it, he said the skill is all about “What kind of ba**s do you have?” Furthermore, he explained its practicality in an incident. The commander is aware of a frozen lake and the consequences of driving into it, yet he orders him to drive straight.

The bodybuilding champion said, “But without any question, I drove straight. And so, of course, the tank crashed into the ice.” He added that the exercise was to test his guts. Ice crashed, and cold water came gushing by. Arnold didn’t back out until the commander said to stop. “That was good,” the commander remarked.
Schwarzenegger went to jail to attend a contest
In 1965, before going to the tank driving school, the 7 x Mr. Olympia went to jail because he went on AWOL (Absent Without Official Leave). He was in Germany to compete in Junior Mr. Europe. When he returned home after winning the title, he was sent to jail for a night so they could say, “We punished him.”

Arnold became the youngest to win the Mr. Universe title in 1967. In addition to his bodybuilding career, the bodybuilding champion attended business school. Without a Plan B, he worked hard to accomplish his goal of becoming one of the greatest bodybuilders ever. He won the most coveted Mr. Olympia title seven times before retiring from competitive bodybuilding.
