Lou Ferrigno, popularly known as The Incredible Hulk, made himself a household name at a very young age. But the bodybuilder-turned-model-turned-actor wasn’t always sure of his career path. He started as a bodybuilder and won the Mr. Universe and Mr America titles two times each.

Lou Ferrigno had a massive body in his prime. He believes that he and Arnold Schwarzenegger made bodybuilding famous and brought it to the mainstream. In a GI Vault interview, the Hulk opened up about his doubts regarding the career.

Lou Ferrigno expressed his doubts

Lou Ferrigno revealed that a part of him was always scared inside of stepping into the profession of bodybuilding. “What happens if I don’t have a career?” wondered Ferrigno when he gave up on his job to compete.

Ferrigno revealed what added to his doubts were people’s remarks, claiming that he couldn’t make a living out of bodybuilding. He kept himself positive about the sport and expressed his love for it. Ferrigno said, “I kept thinking of the positive, knowing that’s as much as I love this, there’s something I want to make money doing.

He said that the public sometimes does not appreciate what bodybuilders, predominantly female bodybuilders, must go through. Ferrigno claimed a lot is involved in becoming a bodybuilder and has worked extremely hard to have it all. 

Ferrigno reveals four factors that make one a champion

Lou Ferrigno also believes that good genetics play a significant role in bodybuilding. He said God gave him a hearing problem, but he compensated for it with his terrific genetics. Along with genetics, he mentioned several other vital factors for making a profession out of bodybuilding.

According to Ferrigno, those four critical factors are will, determination, discipline, and motivation. He believes that nothing can stop one from becoming a champion if one has the fierce drive it takes.

Ferrigno sets his claim differently in a world where people are afraid of success. He says, “I wanted nothing to stop me because I want to be the best. I still have that mentality today“.
