Generation Iron released Kai Greene’s biopic as a documentary titled ‘Kai’ on August 26th, 2022. Created by Vladar Company and The Last Dance producer Matt Maxson, the movie details Greene’s life and career through exclusive interviews, including one with his lifelong rival Heath.  

The IFBB pro, who is known for securing the runner-up position three years in a row (2012-14) moved on to higher pursuits in the realm of arts. Apart from three Arnold Classic Championships (2009-10, 2016) under his belt, he has also acted in TV shows and movies, such as Stranger Things, Crazy Fist, Pogaru, and College Debt.

Kai comes with a very rough history. He grew up without parents in a megalopolis like Brooklyn. Having faced the wrath of juvenile correctional facilities, bodybuilding became his escape from life. He pursued the sport to great heights, giving birth to one of the most memorable rivalries. The documentary observes these aspects in detail.

“It was about finding the best way for me to express myself—to find out who I was as a person and what drove me towards a path of better self-development,” states the athlete. 

The pursuit of creativity

The 47-year-old’s advent into art came with the disclosure that he loved to paint himself to stay in shape; he later moved on to acting. Greene appeared in Stranger Things 2 as a recurring character named Funshine.

In the documentary, the bodybuilder talks about how it was never about building his bulk. Rather, the sport has always been a creative outlet for him. It was a form of expression.

Kai continues, “There are so many ways to express yourself. Whether it’s through art, music, or even bodybuilding,” he continues, “we all have a story to tell, a journey that has led us to where we are today.”
