“Was No Trying to Escape”: Arnold Schwarzenegger Once Had Zero Regrets About the Way He Handled Divorce With Ex-wife Maria Shriver

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s divorce is one of the most talked about in Hollywood. The couple, who once was known as the “most adorable” couple in the industry, went through a public separation. Schwarzenegger’s extra-marital affair with their then-housekeeper led to a separation between the two. Although the bodybuilder was guilty of his past actions, he never denied any of those reports.

Once, during an interview, Schwarzenegger revealed why he never regretted his way of handling the divorce and the talks surrounding it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger acknowledged his mistake

In 2011, several headlines reported that the famous Arnold Schwarzenegger had cheated on his now ex-wife Maria Shriver with their housekeeper Mildred Baena. Schwarzenegger had also fathered a son (Joseph Baena) with Baena.

Soon after the rumors had spread, Schwarzenegger admitted to his actions, and later Shriver announced divorce from her ex-husband. The news had spread like wildfire, and everywhere Schwarzenegger went, people, questioned him about the divorce.

In 2013, Schwarzenegger was asked ten questions during an interview with TIME. Out of these, one was regarding his and Shriver’s separation. The interviewer asked the former Governor of California if he regretted his actions or the way he handled things. To which a thoughtful Schwarzenegger replied, “As soon as it came out, I acknowledged it. There was no cover-up, was not trying to escape, faced up to it, and was a mistake of manner and said that, and that’s the end of the story.”

Although Schwarzenegger admitted to his actions proudly, he always felt sorry for his affair and hurting Shriver.

What was Schwarzenegger’s biggest regret?

A year after his affair was out to the public, Schwarzenegger revealed his autobiography – Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story. In this famous memoir, Schwarzenegger talked about everything from his bodybuilding to his political career.

The book talks about various ups and downs of the bodybuilder’s life and his glorious moments. But he has also mentioned the worst decision of his life. Schwarzenegger hardly has any regrets in his life, but cheating on Shriver was his biggest regret. In the book, he also mentioned how his one mistake affected his relationship with Shriver and his kids.

Although all five kids, including Joseph Baena, share a good relationship with their father, Schwarzenegger might feel guilty for his actions forever.
